Learning How To Swing for Distance and Accuracy

The game of Golf is a series of calculated actions and moves especially when it comes to the swing!  Golfers that are consistently trying to improve their swing are those getting the most accurate, long distance shots.  Let’s be honest, swinging a golf club accurately consists of a lot of things however listed below are three suggestions that will seriously make it easier to get some excellent (consistent) shots.  Don’t forget, a golf swing isn’t something that is learned once, it takes a lifetime of practice.

So, tip # 1.  Make sure your stance feels right.  For example, if you feel like you’re bending over too much then you likely are.  Part of your swing is a result of your feelings when you actually take that swing.  So relax, get relaxed with that stance first. Keep your shoulders parallel to the ground and your hips in line together with your shoulders (forming a square).  Concentrate on a comfortable stance, after that start refining that stance into a strong, precise swing.

The next thing to look for is where you are placing the ball in your stance. Each and every club in your bag has a distinct angle to the club head. That angle is designed to give you the type of range you expect from that specific club. You will probably discover that the club head on your woods is shaped differently than your irons. The club head on a wood was created to produce much more energy upon impact as compared to an iron and that is the reason the additional distance you will get from a well struck wood. If the ball isn’t in the correct place in your stance, then you may not gain any benefit from all of the golf club engineering that was just described. Woods require the ball to be forward in your stance to benefit from the energy these clubs generate at impact. Middle irons require the ball to be in the center of your stance so that you can have better control over the accuracy of your shot. Short irons and chipping irons require the ball to be further back in your stance to allow the angle of the club head to better affect the spin of the ball. Put the ball where it needs to be in your stance and you will exercise greater control over the results.

Lastly, it is a good idea to remember that your golf swing is a pivot type motion where you are moving your weight and power from back to front. It’s not a raising or falling motion, nor is it a shoulder swinging motion. Your whole body needs to pivot correctly for the golf swing to lead to great results, therefore practice pivoting your body on your hips and properly moving your weight from back to front to get good results. Do not lift your body, and do not allow your shoulders to dip down. You can avoid raising your body by keeping your eye on the ball. Maintaining your focus on the ball during your swing almost insures that your shoulders will stay down on the ball as they are supposed to.

Practice your swing and include the principles of weight shift and a smooth pivot to improve distance and precision. You should not approach the golf ball as if you need to strike it extremely hard to get it go where you want it to go. A smooth and cyclical swinging motion will consistently deliver much more precision and range each and every time.
