More On Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods has missed the cut for only the 6th time in his professional career at Quail Hollow. He shot 74 and 79 in the lead off 2 rounds to end up 9 over par. The last time he missed a cut was last July at the British Open at Turnberry, and the last time he missed one at a regular PGA Tour event was in the 2005 Funai Classic. We can’t remember the last time Woods four-putted a green, which he did at the 15th on Friday, nor could we remember the last time he pitched a ball into the water from 47 yards, as he did at the 14th hole.

Those back-to-back double bogeys were the first of of that for Woods since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2007, when he double-bogeyed the 17th hole and triple-bogeyed the 18th.

He missed the cut by eight shots. How did he handle it? Rather well, all things considered, doffing his cap at the final hole before shaking hands and smiling with Cabrera and Stewart Cink, who missed the cut by two strokes after shooting 72-75. Woods hit only two fairways but had zero outbursts and pounded no golf clubs.

However, it’s appears that Wood’s recent turmoil in his personal life is going to have a long lasting affect on his game. And, a large  portion of this fan base have decided to not let him forget it easily. One shouting heckler was escorted from the course for shouting about his recent personal sexual history and there were other less obvious hostilities from the fans.

He showed signs of mental fatigue, the fatigue that comes with the negative publicity that has been rampant since last November. The weight of that fatigue seems nearly impossible to overcome, even for a public figure with his discipline. It will be very intersting to see how he responds in the future.
