Tiger Woods has missed the cut for only the 6th time in his professional career at Quail Hollow. He shot 74 and 79 in the lead off 2 rounds to end up 9 over par. The last time he missed a cut was last July at the British Open at Turnberry, and the last time he missed one at a regular PGA Tour event was in the 2005 Funai Classic. We can’t remember the last time Woods four-putted a green, which he did at the 15th on Friday, nor could we remember the last time he pitched a ball into the water from 47 yards, as he did at the 14th hole.

Those back-to-back double bogeys were the first of of that for Woods since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2007, when he double-bogeyed the 17th hole and triple-bogeyed the 18th.

He missed the cut by eight shots. How did he handle it? Rather well, all things considered, doffing his cap at the final hole before shaking hands and smiling with Cabrera and Stewart Cink, who missed the cut by two strokes after shooting 72-75. Woods hit only two fairways but had zero outbursts and pounded no golf clubs.

However, it’s appears that Wood’s recent turmoil in his personal life is going to have a long lasting affect on his game. And, a large portion of this fan base have decided to not let him forget it easily. One shouting heckler was escorted from the course for shouting about his recent personal sexual history and there were other less obvious hostilities from the fans.

He showed signs of mental fatigue, the fatigue that comes with the negative publicity that has been rampant since last November. The weight of that fatigue seems nearly impossible to overcome, even for a public figure with his discipline. It will be very intersting to see how he responds in the future.

When two objects collide, the transferral of energy is expressed as a measurement of energy retention or loss, with 0.000 being the loss of all energy and 1.000 being perfect transfer of energy from one object to another.

There are some reasons that a golf club and golf ball can not result in a perfect elastic collision with the COR being equal to 1:

a. Club faces and balls are manufactured from completely different materials.

b. Club faces and balls weigh much differently.

An example of a collision where the energy transfer is very high is in the game of pool. A cue ball transfers almost all its energy to the object ball, causing it to speed off at almost the same speed as the cue ball before it struck the object ball, while the cue almost stops. In this case the balls are of the same material and weight.

Here is an example that will give an idea of the increased distance obtainable with increased COR: A driver with a face COR of 0.830 will hit a ball 4.2 yards farther than a driver with a face COR of 0.820, assuming a 100 mph swing speed.

The United States Golf Association has limited the COR for golf clubs to 0.830. It doesn’t mean much to the average slow swinging golfer, now that almost all legal drivers are manufactured to be at the 0.830 COR level. It is, however, a distinct advantage for the golfer with the faster swing speed because the high COR produces better for him.

COR limitations affect only drivers, as most are made from very thin and springy titanium. Most club outlets publish the COR for the drivers that they sell. If your unsure that the driver you like is legal, consult the USGA website for a list of non-conforming drivers.

The loft and lie of golf clubs are often misunderstood measurements. They can be difficult to explain without visual aids, but we will keep it simple and use basic ideas that will help to you understand.

Loft: To start, think of a golf club in your hands, sitting flat on the floor in a playing position. Then think of a vertical straight line starting from the center of the club face an extends upward to the sky. The club face angles backward to give the ball height when it is struck. The angle between the imaginary vertical line that we envisioned and the club face is called the “loft”.

Golf clubs have differing degrees of loft, lower angles for the longer clubs and getting progressively larger for the shorter clubs. For example, the typical driver loft is normally 9 degrees to 12 degrees depending on how high you want to hit your drives. The 3-iron typically has 20 degrees of loft, the 5-iron has 25 degrees, the 7-iron has 32 degrees, the 9-iron has 41 degrees, and increasing in the wedges. The lob wedge will have the most loft at 60 degrees. So, you can readily understand that the shorter clubs have the most loft to lift the ball on a higher trajectory.

Lie: Again, we need to think of a golf club in your hands, sitting flat on the floor in a playing position. If the sole of the club is contacting the floor at a point that is directly under the center of the club face, it is sitting in a proper playing position for you. In that playing position, the angle between the centerline of the club shaft and the floor (between your feet) is called the “lie”. If the toe of the club head (the end farthest away from you) is pointed upward, the contact point between the club and floor will be more toward the heal of the club (the end of the club head nearest your feet). That position is not correct for your setup and will result in shots that will tend to travel to the left or hook left (assuming you are right handed). In this case, you would require a lie angle adjustment (bending) that would lower the lie angle by 1 to 5 degrees, depending on the severity.

Conversely, if the lie angle is too flat ( meaning the bottom of the club is contacting the floor nearer the toe), your shots will have a tendency to fly to the right or fade (again, assuming your right handed).

Conclusion: If your golf clubs do not sit flat, contacting the floor at the vertical centerline of the face, you may need to take them to a shop to have them adjusted. It should be noted that the typical stainless steel cast irons can only be safely bent a maximum of 3 degrees. Forged chrome plated clubs can be bent up to 5 degrees. It should also be noted that it is not a good idea to bend drivers or fairway woods. It’s a wrestling match that normally leaves dents and marks on the head.

Unlike in the past, you have more outlets when it comes to buying cheap golf clubs. The following includes some of the best options and what to look for when you shop for discount golf clubs.

Purchases Online

There are many golf websites that specialize in the selling of this equipment. You should check various sites so you can find the best deals. Do not forget to visit the large internet stores. Check their sporting goods sections and you should find clubs of all shapes and sizes. You’ll save additional money by purchasing golf club clones.

Of course you can also shop in brick and mortar stores. It is also a good idea to read golf publications regularly. Occassionaly, sale events are posted there.

If you are going to buy golf equipment for the first time, it is cheaper if you purchase a whole set opposed to buying individual clubs. You can also buy golf clubs from private individuals in classified ad websites.

How To Pick Clubs

Whether you buy new or used golf clubs, always examine the club head edges. Ensure they are not damaged. Look at the face and make certain there are no dents. Some used golf clubs may have them. Tap on the heads and shake the club to be sure their are no loose parts or rattles.

You should examine the shafts to ensure they are not dented or chipped. Make certain the shafts are the same throughout the set. Using different shafts will cause inconsistency. You will also have to consider the flex rating of the shafts. Most golfers use regular flex but others may require stiff flex, or even a soft flex.

Look at the grips to see if they are still tacky and provide a non-slip surface for your hands. Grips are easy to change and not expensive so they should be your last consideration

Pro golf players will do mostly anything they can to improve and hit the LONG ball. Am I correct? is this you ? If so, i’m quite sure to say you’ve taken a golf lesson or two. Golf lessons can be very effective in getting you back on track, if your golf swing has gone haywire . But, not always.

How much time have you wasted taking golf lessons , only to be more frustrated and striking the ball worse than before that golf lesson? Do you know why this happens? It can be many different reasons, such as too many swing thoughts; making drastic changes that require hours at the range and hitting thousands of balls; or lastly, your body just can’t effectively move in the way it needs to, to make a mechanically correct golf swing.

I’m inclined to say that for the majority of golfers, in particular the older golfer, it’s the last reason above. Your body just can’t move the way it needs to. The question now is, why? Why won’t the body do what it is supposed to do to swing the golf club the right way ? It can drive you to the point of quitting the game. But there is hope. There is an approach that will almost 100% of the time correct this problem. Do you want to know what it is? It’s addressing your “physical restriction s”. That’s what’s keeping you from a great game of golf.

Do you ever get on the course and just feel like you can’t make a full backswing? Or, it just feels impossible to preserve your golf posture and “stay in your swing”? No amount of golf lessons or hitting balls will correct this. Is this a “physical” issue with your body, and until you work on it, it will never get better. I’ve seen it time and time again. Golfers walking off the course in pure disgust. They’ve taken golf lessons, hit balls at the range, and even bought the latest, greatest titanium drive; and yet still can’t play like they think they are capable of.

Finding out your “physical limitations” is the start to a life-long much better golfing game . Once you find out what’s keeping you from making that perfect swing, you can set up a game plan to improve it. It may be a mobility problem or it may be a strength issue. But either way, you’ve got to find the issue.

The most common issue (especially for the older golfer) is flexibility. Not being able to rotate your body fully on the backswing, creating that power and torque for maximal clubhead speed. If your back swing is cut short, you will LOSE yards on your drives! And I say again; no amount of lessons or hitting balls will make that any better. You’ve got to do specific golf stretches to improve this limitation.

Now on the other side of these limiting factors is strength, specific to golf. And one of the most common limitations is weak hamstrings (the back of the upper leg). The role of the hamstring is critical. It allows you to maintain your golf posture throughout the swing and for 18 holes. It prevents undo strain on your lower back. And can give you a steady, comfortable position while putting.

If your hamstrings are weak, I can almost say with certainty, you’ve got some low-back pain or injury. This is prevalent in older golfers and even the younger ones too. Back pain is the #1 reason to keep a golfer from performing his/her best. Have you ever walked off the course with your back in pain? I’m sure at one time or another you have. Now do you think hitting more balls or taking more lessons will improve this? I think you know the answer.

If you have a difficult time, “staying in your swing”, it most definitely could be the above scenario. In order to maintain the forward flex in your upper body (golf posture), your hamstrings need to have optimal strength (and flexibility). If not, your hamstring will send a message to your brain saying, “get out of this position, I can’t hold it any longer”. Do you think his has ever happened to you?

Concentrating on the physical aspects of your game may be just what the doctor ordered . I can assuredly tell you with this approach, your game WILL improve. There is no doubt. Moving your body just a bit better will intiate a big difference in your ability to make an correct golf swing for 18 holes. Before you think about taking that next golf lesson look at you body first.

If you are looking to start golf and have never tried it before or have made a few little attempts to play the game, then my beginner golf tips below will help you to start golf on the right foot. This simple advice will make sure that you avoid some of the pitfalls which could otherwise get you into bad habits and compromise you reaching your full potential.

Golf Lessons
Be sure that when you start golf, you learn the correct techniques of a golf swing and one which will work for your physical shape and abilities. Either call your local pro and book some lessons or if you prefer to instruct yourself, there are some great golfing e-books, golf books, DVD’s or instruction and tips available in sporting goods stores.

Correct Golf Grip
Having a bad golfing grip will give no end of problems down the line in your golfing career. So applying the correct golf grip is an absolute must and should be the very first golfing technique that you work on and get right.

Good Set of Golf Clubs
When you start golf it is not essential to buy the most expensive set of clubs on the market, but you want a set that is tailored to your physical strength, height and shape. Having a shody set of clubs or ones which do not fit properly will have a seriously negative impact on your golfing performance. There are many pro shops who sell good discount golf clubs at really low prices.

Regular Practice
As golf is a motor sport it is necessary to train and keep your brawn memory as sharp as possible. Try to find as much time as you can to practice all areas of your golf skills. Set up a golf practicing docket that you can stick to.

Don’t just practice the full swing, which is a huge mistake most ordinary golfers make. Your short game and golf putting are crucial areas to practice and will prove to be the skills that will improve your handicap and golfing game the quickest.

Golf swings are all different from each other; however, expert golfers have two things in common for the best swings. First is that they try to swing the club in a single plane, and secondly they are in line with their backswing. Achieving this every time is perhaps not practically possible so even expert golfers prefer to play the errant shots. So do not be discouraged when you hit an errant shot. Below mentioned is an example of the perfect golf swing technique, following this, may make you an expert swinger and hit the longest and accurate shots of your life.

The perfect golf swing technique–

There is not any one particular perfect golf swing style for a person; but any golfer can be trained how to have a perfect golf swing. The statement is justified as every golfer has his own style of playing and understanding the game whether it is about gripping the club or about striking the ball. consequently, a golfer has to find out which golf swing actually works best for him and to find this the golfer has to understand the exact mechanics of the golf swing. Therefore, any golfer cannot firmly claim his swing to be the perfect golf swing.

Accurate mechanics first and foremost depends upon the grip on the club and stance positioning. The distance of the shot will be greatly affected if the golfer stands and bends in a wrong direction and position. Wrong direction and swaying will always lead to an erroneous golf swing. Similarly, short landing of the ball may be a result of improper grip on the club. Altogether, I can say that consistency in grip and posture is required to achieve a better ball distance and a perfect golf swing.

The perfect golf swing demands an exact top of the backswing pose so that a golfer can pick up the pace straight away without making any adjustments.

There are also some golf mechanics learning materials available for golfers. You may grasp it and reduce your flaws and become a golf champion. Do not take the promises done by classified ads about golf lessons as is. Being a champion depends on your own dedication and practice. So you must concentrate on the grip on the club and your stance when hitting. These two are the most vital factors for the reason that they matter in attaining preferred ball distance in the best positioning and posture.
