Improve and learn to get a perfect golf swing

September 29, 2009 by admin

One thing that can help all golfers immediate and positive improvements in his game is understanding the factors influencing the golf ball on impact with the golf club. Knowing what these factors and how they affect the ball will help you understand what’s happening in the moment of impact and interpret the flight of golf balls. When you understand what’s happening and why, then you can make slight adjustments to his swing and then see the effects in the next shot. The flight of the golf ball will tell if they were right in their personal balance sheet and has made a good change to a better golf swing. If you made a change that made the trip worse than before, all you should do is undo the change to your swing.

The moment of impact (ideally, the golf club sweet spot hit the ball) is a combination of four factors that ultimately determine how and to what extent travel ball. The golf ball will react to these factors, regardless of how they occur. The first important factor that affects your golf swing is the angle of the clubface at impact the ball. The position of the clubface at impact is the most important factor that influences the initial orientation and rotation of the ball. The clubface should be pointing in the direction of the target to you? I chose later in the course. If the clubface is straight and perpendicular to the golf ball at impact, will scroll down the course without turns.

The second factor is that the impact angle of the clubhead in relation to the golf ball. Is the angle of impact horizontal and vertical angle of impact, the two combine to determine the initial direction of the ball and the height of the flight path of the golf balls. The horizontal angle of impact determines the initial direction of travel ball. The vertical angle of impact will determine how high the ball will fly. Too low or too high and you lose your shot distance.

Thirdly, the clubface should strike the ball on the sweet spot. The sweet spot is the area of the golf club face, which transfers the power of your golf swing on the golf ball. Forward this power effectively to maximize their potential and take the ball away and down the course (as the angle of the clubface and the clubhead at impact are good).

The fourth factor is important when the impact is to lead the club. The speed of your golf swing will determine how much power is transferred to the golf ball and, finally, how far you will go when he hit the sweet spot. The speed or power of the golf swing is not dependent on muscle alone. Other factors such as flexibility and range of motion of the body affect the way a golfer uses the muscles in creating a smooth fluid swing.

The golf swing is not just choosing a golf club and try to fly the ball on the course. A combination of many factors that can be interpreted if it can influence by making adjustments to his swing. Understanding the causes of the golf ball travels as it allows you to improve your golf swing and increase distance and accuracy of your shots. But knowing the cause that produces an effect, affecting the cause for producing the desired effect are two different things, which can be learned with time and practice.

Learn golf swing and swing perfectly!

Ian Poulter, The Fashion Pioneer Gives Us Surprise

September 28, 2009 by admin

The talent of Ian Poulter is not limited in the golf course. The launch of the Autumn and Winter 2009 Collection from IJP Design has two over-riding themes that will surprise no-one who knows anything about Ian Poulter.

Celebrating British Heritage and individual choice, it is another statement of intent from a golfer with a strong sense of elegant lines, vibrant colours and distinctive style.

Poulter himself is in no doubt that IJP Design have come up trumps: “Yet again I feel that my team has produced another exceptional golf and lifestyle apparel range that allows you to be seen, be smart and most importantly be yourself.”

We’ve been taking a look at the latest range and you can too with our exclusive gallery of the IJP Design Autumn and Winter 2009 Collection.

Collection Launch – 1st September 2009

What They Say:

Introducing the Limited Edition ‘Quintessentially British’ Collection from IJP Design, from luxurious textured knitwear to Design your own Belt, this is the most sophisticated collection yet from the leading golf and lifestyle brand.

Tartan Roots

Each season the IJP designers follow their ‘lead with the legs’ philosophy and chose a 4 colour palette for each of the 3 tartans. This then determines the mood for the collection. For the Autumn/Winter season their chosen lead colours consist of Bugatti blue and indigo, jet black and rich damson, marshmallow and mocha.

Lead with the Legs

Trousers are at the heart of IJP Design and indeed IJP (Ian James Poulter) himself. This season the signature ‘Ian Poulter’ tartan, registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority, makes an appearance in both the famous boot leg trousers and shorts. The collection also boasts beautifully stylish piped tailored trousers and comfortable, casual corduroys – something for everyone.

Designer Knitwear

An item of IJP Design knitwear is a must for any winter wardrobe as the range is simply stunning. High quality merino wool and finest cashmere feature time and again, though there is always an IJP twist to the designs that makes them so distinctive and chic. A fine example is the signature tartan back of the funnel neck jumper.

Technical Perfection

The Autumn / Winter collection would not be complete without the inclusion of the state of the art waterproofs. The jacket stands out from others with its tailored (rather than gathered) waistband, making movement easier. The waterproof trousers also boasts larger than average back pockets for a score card, stretch lining in the knee for additional movement and a tailored waistband. A tough test run was the Open Championship 2008 at Royal Birkdale, where the suit protected Ian from howling wind and rain, helping him get ahead of the pack and finish second in the tournament.

Luxury Limited Edition Range

This year also sees the proud launch of the 2009 ‘Quintessentially British’ Limited Collection, the perfect example of luxurious, stylish golf apparel. Key pieces include an 100% cashmere Union Jack Sleeveless Cardigan, a St Georges tartan for the bootleg trousers and a Swarovski Crystal Union Jack Cap. This is IJP Design saying ‘dare to different’!

Unique Golf Accessories

Another key addition, due to popular demand, is the ability to create your very own IJP belt. Select one or two of the luxurious Italian belt leathers and match it with any one of the best selling buckles, the limited edition Union Jack buckle for instance. If you are an accessories fan you can also build your collection and store it in the ‘Quintessentially British’ Union Jack Tartan Belt and Buckle Bag, complete with a silhouette of Ian on the zip and unique caddy map lining.

Play Better Golf Psychology In The Now and One Shot at a Time

September 27, 2009 by admin

One of the key success factors of better golf psychology is learning to unconsciously play one shot at a time – in the moment, in the zone or “in the now.” And this applies equally to every shot you play on the practice ground, in a friendly game and in the most important round of your golfing life. Playing in the now means that you’re protected from any poor, indifferent shots and ill-judged shots that went before. It also means that you’re protected from future uncertainties and expectation.

Now why am I talking about this today? Well, isn’t the world’s golf press just amazing, if a little predictable? They see Benn Barham score a fourth round 69 for a phenomenal total of 19 under par and they say he failed and focus their attention on his few bad shots, like his drive down the last hole “that cost him a birdie.” If he’d played like that, scored like that and won, then they’d be talking about his amazing success and knocking Rafael Cabrera Bello’s disastrous failure.

Now I’m not taking anything away from Rafael. He played remarkably well for an 11-under par 60 to beat Benn into second place in the Austrian Open on the European Tour by a single shot. I read somewhere that it’s one of only 13 rounds of 60 in the history of the European Tour and Darren Clarke had two of those, so Rafael’s one of only 12 phenomenal golfers.

What’s more interesting to me as a golf psychologist watching every shot of their final rounds is that they both played to the best of their ability on the day. It was just that Rafael scored better. Better even than Benn’s 63 in the opening round on Thursday. What’s also interesting is that they both seemed to be playing their mental golf one shot at a time.

You could see that in the way that Benn calmly holed a series of difficult recovery putts to keep things going in the first 9 holes on Sunday. Except he didn’t seem to be “trying” to keep things going, he just seemed to be playing each shot on its merits, disregarding the shot that had gone before, good or bad. He also didn’t look like a man who was getting ahead of himself. He just seemed to be focussing on playing the shots and letting the score just happen. Even the final result didn’t really faze him judging by his comment afterwards that “I’m very happy with the way I have played but disappointed to finish second.”

Rafael certainly looked to me like he was doing the same thing and he confirmed it afterwards when he’s quoted as saying.

“It’s just amazing – I played the best golf of my life and I can’t believe it, I was so far back at the start of the final round that I wasn’t thinking about winning. I just tried to play a shot at a time and it worked out really good.”

So how do I play each shot “in the now”, I hear you asking. Well, I’ll be talking a lot more about that in future articles, but for now, here’s a simple suggestion that will bring most people abruptly into the now. Just imagine that the shot you are about to play is the last golf shot you will ever play. There’s no point in thinking about the next shot, as there isn’t going to be one. Just make the best you can of this one last shot. Make it a shot to remember. You wouldn’t want to mess up your last ever shot by trying too hard, now would you.

Wie Will Rock The Golf World

September 26, 2009 by admin

From the time her sweet swing marked her for future stardom at the age of 12, Michelle Wie has been the subject of almost constant controversy in golfing circles. Pressured by continuing references to her as “the next Tiger Woods.”

Wie’s very presence at an event usually sparks a continuing round of questions. Were her parents ruining their daughter’s childhood by encouraging her to play against male professional golfers? Why was she so standoffish in her dealing with fans, or with the media? Why did she rate special treatment everywhere she went?

HERE’S WHY

Wie won the Women’s Amateur Public Links tourney at 13, making her the youngest player ever to have won a USGA championship for adults. The very fact that she has become a central element in conversations about both men’s and women’s golf speaks to the unique skills she brings to the game.

According to Davis Love III, Michelle “has one of the best golf swings I’ve ever seen. Period.” Says Freddie Couples: “When you see her hit a golf ball, there’s nothing that prepares you for it. It’s just the scariest thing you’ve ever seen. Her talent is amazing.”

In 2005, at the tender age of 15, and eligible to play only invitational events, Wie finished second at the SBS Open at Turtle Bay. She also turned in a second-place finish at the LPGA Championship and followed that up by becoming the first female golfer to qualify for a USGA national men’s tournament when she shared first place at the U.S. Amateur Public Links qualifier. Then, at the U.S. Women’s Open, she managed to remain among the leaders until the final day. The very next week, she received a sponsor’s exemption to the John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour and justified her selection by missing the cut by a mere two strokes. At the Men’s Public Links, she made it to the quarterfinals before losing, then tied Lorena Ochoa for second place at the Evian Masters. Finally, she tied for third at the Women’s British Open. If she’d been a professional that year, she would have finished eighth on the LPGA money list with earnings of $644,024.

Not bad for a kid with a part-time job.

HANDLING PRESSURE

In this, her rookie season on the LPGA Tour, she has won more than $500,000, logged more top-10 finishes than anyone else, been named to the Solheim Cup team and proceeded to outplay every member of both the European and American teams. Had the tourney awarded a most valuable player trophy, it would be hanging in Michelle Wie’s den.

After selecting Wie as a captain’s choice for the team, Beth Daniel stated the obvious: “Michelle accumulated her points in a single year, while everyone else had two. It was a no-brainer.”

Indeed.

Still, critics complained, Wie hadn’t won anything lately. She’d never proven she could finish.

On Sunday, she put an end to such talk.

At the very point where her critical match with Helen Alfredsson was in doubt, Wie took control when she hammered a 305-yard drive down the middle of the fairway on the par-5 15th, then followed with an 8-iron to the green. Even when Alfredsson won the 17th to pull within 1, Wie seemed oblivious to the pressure. Again reaching the green in 2, she calmly two-putted to secure the match and, for all intents and purposes, the Solheim Cup championship for the United States.

WHAT’S NEXT?

At the Solheim Cup, Wie proved that she is both likable and popular – attributes once roundly denied by media and the golfers themselves.

Now that Wie has shown she can, indeed, finish there’s no telling how far and how fast she will fly.

Not to belabor the obvious, but Michelle Wie is a marketing phenomenon. Her talent, combined with her performance at Rich Harvest Farms, has turned her into the mother lode of all PR campaigns. The teenager from Hawaii possesses the raw talent, youth and incredible good looks to become the most important female golfing presence of her generation.

How’s that for pressure?

About Golf

One of the best things about living in shanghai these days is that some really interesting people come through town all the time.  I am lucky enough to have always been invited.  Last night was the big golf charity event hosted by the CocoCola company.  it was the Gary Player Charity Invitation Golf tournament.   If you play golf I am sure you will know who Gary Player is.  He is today 72 years old but for a long long time, he has been on top of the golf game.  He is one of the most famous golf players in the world, being the world champion for 3 years.  He is South African and he is absolutely fantastic. He is in great shape and has more energy than I do.For 25 years, Gary’s charity has raised 25 million dollars.  Last year, in China they raised 1.5 million.  This year, they raised 4 million.  very impressive.  THis year, they will spend in helping orphans of AIDS parents in China.  I bidded on the membership of a new club in shanghai called MINT. it is an exclusive club that provides very exclusvie services.  I like golfers.  I prefer to have a husband or a boyfriend who is a golfer.  Do you know why?  It is because golfers usually get up real early in the morning to play golf. In stead of staying up late at night to be in KTV places drinking and smoking and doing whatever else they do in KTV bars, they go to bed early.   It is a much better way to life.  Golf courses are just beautiful.  Today in china, there are so many of them and the club houses are really beautiful!  another  thing I love about golfers…i find them mostly very people oriented.  They are fun and always laugh and have lots of good friends or what they call "golf buddies" .The game is usually played with others.  Although you do compete with others, you basically are completing against yourself.  You keep your own scores.      Coca Cola was the sponsor last night.  It was really well done.  I enjoyed myself so much. David Wu was the great host.  he is one of the very best in china and comes often to host this kind of events.  he has the ability to flit from English to Chinese really well.  One of the most impressive people in the event is the gentleman who is called Douglas Jackson who is the President of Coca cola in China.   What energy this guy has.  What a sales person.  He is so likable that you will do whatever he wants you to do.  Coca cola is doing very well in china.  I remember now that when I started my TV show on CCTV  in china in 1986, Coca Cola was just starting in China.  One of my first advertisers was Coco Cola!   My dearest friend Serge Dumont who was the UN representative for AIDS in China was the one that invited me to the event.   I also was with ye zhao Ying(???)   who was the 2 times world Olympics of Badminton. and also liang wen zhong who was the first chinese to play in Master Tournament of Golf. This picture is me with Zhang zilin(???), Ms. World 2007.  The next Ms World contest will be in South Africa. She will go there in December to hand over her crown to the new Ms World..   She is really pretty.    Another reception I went to today with my beautiful friend Joanna Cappo.  It was the reception hosted by HSBC bank in the Shanghai Fiancial Center for the GOLF Championship.  We were on the 94th floor.  it was the first time I went to the building.  I never liked height.  so being on such height is not my cup of tea.  I felt uncomfortable and felt a bit dizzy a few times.  Do I like the building?  NO.  NO. NO!  it looks like an industrial building.  So gray so uninteresting.  All gray and all metal.  so cold.  Again, not my cup of tea.  Even the uniform of the workers are SO very unatrractive.  all gray and downy even on such young girls.  I am totally NO impressed. What is wonderful tonight was these gorgeous golfers i was with.  Mickelson is the no 2 golfer in the world after Tiger. This is one of the richest tournaments.  They get paid real well to come to china to play.

Golf Equipment: Top Three Reasons to Own a Golf GPS Device for Duffers

September 25, 2009 by admin

Golf equipment manufacturers are always trying to provide golfers with better equipment to enhance the overall playing experience. Every season it seems there are a host of new golf gadgets and devices introduced to the golfing public. The Golf Channel even has a show centered around new golf inventions.

Some are a real help to the average golfer while others fail to find widespread acceptance. Ultimately golfers decide what they want to use while on the course.

In recent years one device that has seen increasing popularity is the golf GPS unit. This is a cell phone like device that uses the same technology that is in your car’s GPS for the golf course.

The unit tells the golfer at a glance how far to the green, or to carry the hazard or any other critical distance information. He uses this information to choose the proper club for the shot before him.

I am a golf gadget guy anyway and love new technology, so I have owned one of these for about three years now. At first my playing partners would tease me about it, but it wasn’t too many rounds until they started using it too when we road on the same cart. They could see the value of the GPS range finder too.

How about you? Do you have one? Have you been thinking you would like one but haven’t decided yet?

Well, there are a few very strong reasons why you should use one of these cool new GPS units when you play.  I will outline them below.

1.     They Speed Up Play.

One of the most concerning things about the game of golf is the time required to play, usually a little more than four hours. But rounds lasting nearly five hours are not unheard of. Worse yet the trend for the length of the average round is increasing.

Enter the golf GPS units. They hold the chance of reducing the time to play an average round by thirty minutes or more. You see one of the time consuming parts of the game is that each player needs to know the distance to his target in order to select the proper club.

In the past he would seek out yardage markers on the course and then pace off the distance from the marker to the ball. But with the GPS device the golfer pulls up to his ball, checks the distance indicated by the GPS device and immediately knows the distance to the target and club to choose.

If it takes two minutes to determine the distance using the old method, we just saved that two minutes with the GPS system. Now multiply that by all four players in a group and you can get an idea of how much time could be saved with this new technology.

2.     GPS Range Finders Save Strokes.

We all work at keeping our scores as low as possible. Yet we are prone to make errors in judgment while on the course. Often a golfer will make an educated guess on the distance he needs for a shot only to learn that he guessed wrong. These errors add shots to the hole and over the course of an entire round those shots add up to quite a few.

If the golfer had access to the information available from a GPS unit then he would know the right distance, choose the correct club and if struck correctly land the ball near the target. I know that for me it is very discouraging to hit a good shot only to find it land either short or long because I had misjudged the distance. With a GPS unit your errors are limited to execution rather than both execution and judgment.

3.     GPS Units are Affordable.

Initially these units were very pricey. The first company I remember offering these sold them for around $300 USD plus an annual fee to download new courses. They sold many of them (I bought one) and then they were approved for tournament play by both the USGA and the R&A.

With this level of acceptance many new brands have entered the marketplace. They offer a variety of features and programs to suit the needs of nearly every golfer. The beauty of this competition is that prices have come down and now I am seeing some units available for about $150 USD.

So there you have it. Faster play and lower scores all for an affordable price. You could lower your handicap and have more fun doing it. Now that sounds like a winner to me.

If you are considering improving your golf game by adding a GPS range finder then the three reasons listed above should be more than enough to convince you of their benefits.

Just find the right one for you with the features you need in the price range to fit your budget. If you are like me, you will be happy you did.

Dooley Duffer recommends these GPS units: Golf GPS Range Finders.

Golf clubs And Wife, Which One Weighs More?

Once you have a family, it means you must put more weight on your thoughts. You are no longer having that freedom to do whatever you like. When you do something you think normal in the past, now you have to think about if it is normal to your wife. That’s uncomfortable, right?

You may have enthusiasm for golf playing. So you will bring your favorite golf clubs to the course, and spend time enjoying driving with your friends. You can’t be happier in the golf course. Hobby adds meaning to one’s life and we are bored without hobby. It is totally understandable if you forget the time to go home. Golf clubs, in another saying, they are your mistress. Maybe you are not interested in house cleaning and you are more willing to wipe your golf clubs. Then you put it away until the next time you use it.

How about your wife? Has she ever complained about the hobby you have. If she is a housewife with two or three children, she has no time to take care of everything. She hopes her husband to give her a hand. But when she became a fussy woman due to the chores, she may lose her temper and do something out of your imagination. When you are enjoying golf, she called you but no response, since you left your cell phone in your golf bag or closet. At this moment, you must worry about your mistress and yourself. If there are golf clubs in your home, she may be angry at your golf clubs. These desperate housewives will torture your golf clubs at all kinds of method. If you are unfortunate enough, you are entering your home. Then the golf clubs will become weapons in the war between you and your wife. Even they are discount golf clubs, you are still so heart-struck seeing your clubs’ tragic fate. “Damned!”

Please, for clubs’ sake, don’t infuriate your wife. Take care of your wife means take care of your golf clubs.

Simple Rules of Golf Etiquette

September 23, 2009 by admin

Every sport has their unspoken rules. They are there to make the game fun for everyone playing.  Whether it be for safety or respecting other players, it is best to know them before playing the game with other experienced players.  Golf has always been known for its high standards and general respect for each other.  Golf etiquette is expected when playing with club members or players that have been around this game for a long time. So, before you set out on the fairway read the following rules to golf etiquette.

Most of golf etiquette is there to ensure the safety of each player.  Possibly the most important and most obvious rule to the game is to make sure that no one, player or spectator, is in the way of your shot.  The average professional golfer can hit a ball at 100 mph. The world record for golf ball speed is 204 mph. That being said, anything going 100 mph can really do some serious damage.

When someone is preparing to take a shot, make sure you stand behind them.  Even standing a few feet in front and to the side can put you into the line of fire.  A golf ball has been known to fly off in improbable directions so you don’t want to be in the way and that close.  Also, while someone is taking their shot, you should not talk or move and fidget in their eyesight.  Hearing someone talk or seeing them move around from the corner of your eye can distract you and mess up your concentration.

You’re bound to find other groups playing in the same golf course.  If there is another group in front of you, make sure you wait until the entire group has hit their second shot and is out of the way before your group starts.  If it is a short course, then you should wait until they have moved on to the next hole before your group starts.  Should you or another player in your group happen to hit a ball while others are still in range, make sure you yell “Fore” to warn them to try and take cover.

Be respectful of each other’s turn when playing.  Do not go out of turn and make the other players in your group feel disrespected. The player whose ball is the furthest back gets to hit their next shot first.  This ensures that you don’t leave any player behind. The player who won the previous hole has the honor of going first in the next hole.

When reaching the green, make sure you respect the surface.  No one wants their ball to get thrown off course because someone else before you left marks on the surface. Get in the habit of checking for marks and repairing them before and after your group is finished.  Lay your bags and clubs gently on the green so you do not mess it up. Once everything is set, once again do not get in the way of other peoples ball.

These are common sense to other players so they might not tell you these etiquette rules unless you ask.  Be courteous when playing, otherwise, you might have another club member come up to you and tell you of their displeasure.  When playing in a new club, make sure to check if they have any dress codes or additional rules.  Many people are passionate about keeping golf fair and having its standards honored by each player.

Tips on how to save money when playing golf

Golf is one of a select group of sports that can be inherently expensive; the cost of clubs alone can set you back a couple of hundred pounds for a full set and a bag to store them in.  Whilst the sport used to be thought of as an exclusively “rich man’s sport” these days with golf growing in popularity and having a booming youth scene the cost is becoming a key deciding factor.

There are many ways you can play golf on the cheap but they may take a bit of research to find out all the insider tips.  This article should give you a few tips on how to go about playing golf but not breaking the bank.  Some may seem obvious whilst others are top secret insider hints that could help you cut your golfing costs clean in half!

Know someone at a golf club

Many golf courses local to you may be member’s only who would either require a membership fee or even a lengthy waiting list.  These courses are probably the best ones to play on as they will be less crowded than municipal courses and well kept but they will also be pretty tough to get a game on at the same time.  Members are often able to bring guests who can play on the course for a discount rate that regular non-members have to pay.  You never know, you may like the course so much that you end up becoming a member yourself!

Pick your time and date wisely

On more popular courses around the world there are seasons where the golf courses’ green fees can rise significantly (green fees are the payment you make every game that goes towards maintenance costs).  This rise will normally be when the weather’s nice in the summer but also before and after a major tournament is due to be played, any courses in the UK that are scheduled to host the annual Open tournament like this year’s Turnberry course in Scotland can be pricey if you want to play during the lead-up or aftermath of the tournament.  As long as you don’t mind early games or late in the day then you could save some money on your fees by being flexible.

Find out about any discount schemes

Sticking with Green fees, sometimes there are schemes that can help cut the cost of playing a round of golf.  These schemes often come in the form of vouchers that a selection of courses will accept; these vouchers will enable two players to play a round of golf but for only having to pay one green fee.  Basically it gives you the “buy one get one free” or “2 for 1” deal we see in retail and other areas.  This is a great way to save money, essentially cutting your golfing costs in half and well worth looking into.
