When it comes to trying to select the best golf balls, there are literally hundreds of different types, brands and sizes that you can to choose from. Each golf ball manufacturer makes a number of different types of balls all designed with different playing styles, different types of players and different price brackets. So as a consumer how do you go about selecting the best golf balls for your needs? This is easy when you consider that golf ball manufacturers generally break their products into two distinct groups – the two piece balls and the multi layer balls. Let’s take a moment to examine each one in more detail.
The two piece golf ball is the traditional distance ball. This means that it is designed to travel. The two piece ball consists of the core and a cover and as a result of this design, the two piece balls travel the maximum distance no matter what the swing speed is. As a player, you will generally hear an audible click when you make contact with this ball when you hit it with your club. Because these balls get less sidespin they tend to fly straighter even if they are hit of the heel or toe. Two piece balls are generally cheaper than the multi layer balls.
The multi layer ball on the other hand is either a three piece or four piece ball and is made up of a core, a mantle, and then a cover. These are generally more expensive balls. They usually feel softer to hit and have a higher spin rate because of this softness. In the higher spinning balls, the mantle helps to transfer the energy to the core whereas in a lower spinning ball the mantle will help to reduce the spin off a player who chooses to use a driver or a longer club.
So how do you work out which ball will best suit and even improve your game? Firstly you need to determine what type of player you are or want to become. Players that are mostly concerned with getting more distance off the tee are better off opting for the two piece ball. Where as players who want more control in the ball should opt for the multi layer ball. The best way to decide between the two is to head to the gold range and hit a few buckets to get a feel for both types.

The correct golf grip is probably one of the most overlooked fundamentals in the game of golf. Far too many amateurs are unaware of the importance of this. If you don’t have the correct golf grip you run the risk of having a very flawed golf swing and will create some shots that will damage your round every time out. Follow this step by step plan and you will have a solid technique to work from which will improve your game no end.
1) Take the club with your top hand and place the handle diagonally from the top join of your index finger down through your palm and a few centimetres higher than the your wrist (little finger side). Now wrap your hand around the club. Your thumb should be resting on top of the club.
2) You now have two choices (the most popular grip techniques) – the interlock grip or the overlay grip. First of all rest your bottom hand on top of the thumb of your top hand – use the lifeline on your bottom hand as the point at which you place it. At this point you can either rest your little finger of your bottom hand on the index finger of the top hand, or, interlock the same two fingers. Try both out and see which is more comfortable for you. Neither is better than the other but you want a feeling of unity so that you feel you can control the club.
3) Now you may need some slight adjusting of both hands. Locate the ‘v’ between your thumb and index finger on both hands. They are upside down as you look at them – have the point of the v on both hands point toward your chin.
4) The importance of point two is that you can alter the type of shot you create depending upon the position of these v’s. The further toward your back shoulder you point them the ‘stronger’ your grip is and the more knuckles you will see on your left hand. This can help create more distance but has been known to add more slice. The opposite tends to reduce distance and create more of a hook. More advanced players play around with this to help fashion fade or draw shots. Be aware of these factors and play around with this to see what suits your game.
5) The correct golf grip is not complete without applying the right amount of pressure. It is too tempting to really grab hold of a club and choke it to death – you’d think that would help you get more distance. Wrong. Tense muscles reduce the freedom and rhythm of your swing which is where real club head speed comes from. A well known analogy for the right pressure is to hold the club as if you were holding a small bird without trying to hurt it.
Use these pointers as the basis of a solid and correct golf grip. If you’ve been gripping it any old way then you will notice a big difference in your play and will become a better golfer for it.

Golf is one of the greatest games on Earth. It is also one of the hardest games. You would do well to follow these beginner golf tips to ensure that your entry into the golf world isn’t as bad as it could be. Too many people give up before they have really begun because they don’t adopt good habits. To give your game a turbo boost read on. You will be part of the ever growing band of Golfers Anonymous in no time at all.
1) The golf swing is a side action. It is not an up and down action. To understand this fully take a ball and throw it from your side with an underarm technique. This is the type of action you want to develop. Notice that the further you want to throw the ball the more you need to turn your shoulders.
2) A time old classic is to imagine that you are swinging a baseball bat. The main difference is that the club will need to reach the ground at some point so your stance will be different. Practice swinging a golf club as if you had a bat in your hand to train your muscles to understand the technique you are looking for.
3) When setting up to the ball stand with your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees slightly and bend down from your hips with your back straight. Practise this by sticking your behind out to get the right feel for it. You want your arms to hang in front of your body. Try not to hunch over too much. When it comes to playing for real you don’t want to be too near the golf ball or too far away – this tip will help you get this right.
4) Grip the golf club lightly. Most beginner golf tips miss this out – if you grip too tightly you will not be able to swing with freedom. This will have a very negative impact on your game. Imagine you are holding a tube of toothpaste and you only want to squeeze just enough to get a little paste out. This is what you are looking for.
5) When swinging try to be as smooth and rhythmical as you can. It might feel a little strange at first but the more you swing a club the more comfortable you will get. Try to imagine a big hula hoop surrounding your body at an angle. You want the club to be swinging round your body on this path and it should be accelerating the nearer to the ground it gets. Forget about trying to hit the ball – think more about the fact that the ball is in the way of your club. Too many beginners get caught up with trying to hit at the ball and end up taking the club away from its intended path. This will only end in tears.
The golf swing can get very technical. A lot of beginner golf tips introduce some difficult concepts too early and this results in confusion. Golf is as much a feel and touch game as it is a scientific one. As you become more used to the basics you can start to introduce some more advanced techniques.

Do you have a preferred golf player? Is it Tiger Woods or Ernie Els? Have you endlessly considered that your swing looks similar to theirs? Woods and Els are two excellent golf players. While you observe them play, you can certainly become aware of their elegant and dominant swings. Truthfully, it is not easy to reproduce that merely by watching. Following the steps below to improve golf swing.
Having a high-quality swing needs continuous practice. Also, your body needs to be well tuned up for it to do properly. Here are a number of essential tips to help you develop your golf swing and might help you shoot in the 90s or even 80s.
1. Warm up. Just like any other game or sport, golf players need a little warming up before starting a round. This is what most players, especially amateurs, often take for granted.
It is best to come early at the golf course and take a few minutes to stretch those muscles and warm up. This will make your muscles “know” that they are in for something and that they should be prepared. Taking a few swings in the driving range will also help you get tuned up and perform better.
2. Exercise. This is actually important, not only for golf. Constantly exercising your body and muscles will be able to keep them toned and prepared for any action. This will moreover avoid frequent body aches and pains that you typically experience when playing golf.
Getting into the habit of exercising, in particular tuning up your muscles will be able to possess a huge impact on your swing. It can assist you obtain a good quality position and encourage total balance and control on your swings and help hit longer drives.
3. Do not swing too hard yet. It is in fact alluring to provide your swing that additional effort. Then again, it is not recommended unless you already obtain the control of your swing. The secret to a strong and polished swing is the balance and control that you possess, add to it the right form and stance.
Therefore how do you get to learn to control your swing? Yet again, it’s tip number 2. Regular training will, in time, permit you to obtain a faster, more controlled swing.
Aside from these easy steps to do, it is also best to ask help from the pros, face-to-face or thru online methods. They will be able to give high-quality advices as they already have learned a lot from their experiences. Keeping updated with the most up-to-date about golf will also help.
Additionally, nearly all players are inclined to be so mindful in their longing to develop their swing that their minds are focused on all features of the swing itself; doing that will simply make your swing appear clumsy. As an alternative, it is best to keep your mentality off your swing. Strive to concentrate on something else and the high-quality swing will just tag along.
Try to do these things when you play golf again. And do these regularly, then notice the change it will make on your next golf swing and you’ll be on your way to break 80!

Here will teach you that “How To Hit Your Golf Driver”!
First, you should choose the right driver for yourself, such as Callaway FT-iQ Driver at www.wowgolfclubs.com Many golf player all know the callaway, it the old and famous brand!
Your initial golf shot is your most important golf shot in my estimation. It’s sort of like first down in football. If you’re second down and twenty every time you get the ball you’re going to have a long afternoon. I’m used to it, being a Dolphin fan.
If you’re having trouble during a round of golf with hitting your golf driver in the fairway then drop down to your three wood immediately. Maybe after some success with your three wood you will gain your confidence back to try your driver again. The little bit of distance you’ll loose by hitting your three wood will be more than compensated by being on the short grass in the fairway. Work out any problems with your driver in practice not on the golf course.
The first thing you need to understand about a Driver is that the length is probably doing you the most harm. A golf swing is very similar to a group of skaters turning in a circle or a group of soldiers marching in a circle. The outside skater or individuals will have to move that much faster than the rest of the line to keep up. Sure the longer the driver the faster the club head will travel in theory, but eqaully the harder it will be to square the club face at impact thus causing that dreaded slice off the fairway.
To square the golf club up at impact, (impact is actually about three degrees closed with a driver) you need to start rolling your forearms over earlier. Why, because the golf club head is further away from you. If you’re having trouble squaring up the club face first try choking up a little on the golf club. My opinion is golf club manufacturers make the modern drivers too long anyway. Most are about 45 to 46 inches. I prefer 44 inches. Tiger Woods only hits a 43 ½ inch driver.
I also prefer the smaller club heads. Everyone is raving about the hybrid woods that are replacing three irons. Golfers rave about how easy the hybrids are to hit. The heads are SMALL and have a low center of gravity. In contrast the new Drivers have a head the size of a basketball and golfers wonder why they can’t square it up. I recommend the 395cc head as the largest acceptable size, not the 460cc style which is actually more difficult to square up at impact.
Some golfers try to keep their head still or over the top of the golf ball. To make a full turn on a swing with your driver your head might move a little towards your back foot. That’s fine if not desired. You need to be well behind the golf ball at impact. One should have a straight line from the front shoulder to the ball at impact.
Another thing I noticed is that most golfers tend to hit their driver out on the toe. Use some face tape on your driver and witness for yourself where you are making contact with the face of your driver. Usually the best place to make contact is high on the face and just a little inside of center. Different drivers have difference centers of gravity.
I hope you can get the high scores!

Will Tiger Woods win this tournament? Well, at the moment he’s at position one on the leaderboards with; Hunter Mahan, Padraig Harrington, Robert Allenby and Matthew Goggin trailing behind (in that order).
One of the most popular vacation destinations within the Northern State of Minnesota is the Grand View Lodge. This multi-faceted resort is home to three golf courses. The Pine Golf Course added in 1990 and Preserve and Deacon’s Lodge which have quite recently followed suit.
The Pine Golf Course has been named the only five star golf course in the Minnesota state by popular golfing magazine – Golf Digest. I found this quite surprising considering the sheer number of great golf courses within Minnesota.
This will be the 91st anniversary of the PGA Championship since it began back in 1918. Hazeltine Golf Course has been the host of many world class and prestigious golfing tournaments including two United States Women’s Golfing Opens in 1966 and 1977, two United States Golfing Opens and a United States Senior Golfing Open in 1983. Due to the fact that Hazeltine is a private golf course it will mean that the average joe will be able to buy a ticket to watch the PGA Championship 2009.

The Final Major of the year–PGA Championship 2009 is here already. Tiger has not won a major this year, although he has won his last 2 Tournaments.
Also can Phil make another memorable run and possibly get that Wanamaker Trophy for Amy? Also there has been no majors in the over par numbers this year, will Hazeltine produce low numbers as well? Thoughts?
The PGA championship starts on Thursday.
In a perfect world Tiger comes in with no pressure. He can’t do worse then a MC so anything better is an improvement. However, this is not a perfect world. Tiger needs to not put so much pressure on himself to perform at every major. I do sense a kind of calmness about him the past two weeks. Not getting to high or to low. He has been pretty much a stone face. Now on to my predictions. I have a certain feeling that Mr. Woods will come out and shoot 66-64 range on Thursday to take all the suspense out early. Now that might not happen and it probably won’t. Tiger isn’t a big first round guy anyways. Stewart Cink is a good bet as well. He is good but can he put four rounds together again? Hunter Mahain is a good bet as well. He, like Tiger, was really good in the first two majors of the year but messed up the British. Lucas Glover will contend sometime on Saturday but will fall apart.
Cabrera’s the one to watch, he’s driving it long and straight and there’s no backup in the guy. Mahan’s just a darn good golfer and well we all know Tiger can never be ignored in any major championship. I just like the way Jiminez plays the game, not even sure I spelled his name right!! He’s sure due to win one over here. Rollins is another solid player all comes down to putting which is true for all of’em. I always enjoy watching Phil do his thing but on this course those gambles may do him in again. Goosen’s another one who has been playing well but not closing the deal is why I didn’t pick him in my lineup. Then of course we have, V.J., Padraig and quite a few with a shot at winning.. And at last, if I can only pick one, it si Sergio Garcia
Here are my Power Rankings:
1. Sergio Garcia
2. Angel Cabrera
3. Phil Mickelson
4. Steve Stricker
5. Retief Goosen
6. Hunter Mahan
7. Kenny Perry
8. Oliver Wilson
9.Tiger Woods
10. Miguel Angel Jimenez

Tiger Woods is set to be punished with a fine by the PGA Tour for his public criticism of a rules official on Sunday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the tour does not publicize fines.
Woods went on to win his seventh Bridgestone Invitational title after Harrington posted a treble-bogey eight at the hole during the final round of Golf Betting at Firestone Country Club.
Woods was bothered after his four-shot victory Sunday because he and Padraig Harrington were put on the clock at the par-5 16th. He said that caused Harrington to rush three difficult shots, leading to triple bogey.
European Tour chief referee John Paramor told Woods and Harrington they were being timed.
Woods said he told Harrington after it was over, “I’m sorry that John got in the way of a great battle.”
Speaking to Sportsbook golf.com an unnamed PGA official confirmed that Woods would face a fine for his comments.
The PGA Tour’s player handbook says: “It is an obligation of membership to refrain from comments to the news media that unreasonably attack or disparage tournaments, sponsors, fellow members, players of PGA Tour.”
Harrington conceded he was rushed, although he said it would be unfair to give the final group preferential treatment.
Section VI-D in the PGA Tour’s player handbook says, “It is an obligation of membership to refrain from comments to the news media that unreasonably attack or disparage tournaments, sponsors, fellow members, players, or PGA Tour.”
