Ping Rapture Hybrid

  • Multi-material Technology – Club composed of a 17-4 SS body, thin 475 super steel face, and high density tungsten nickel sole. Properly utilizing these materials increases the moment of inertia, making this hybrid more forgiving and also creates higher launch and less spin for a higher but flatter penetrating ball flight.
  • Tungsten Nickel Sole – Discretionary weight saved from the thin 475 SS face and other non-high stress areas is put back in the tungsten nickel sole as weight pads that are strategically placed along the back skirt of the club to bring the CG down and back. This provides a hybrid that launches the ball high for soft approach shots, but also has a penetrating trajectory for maximum distance.
  • Sloped Crown Design – Helps bring the CG further down and away from the face resulting in a club that is easy to control from any turf conditions.
  • Robotic Plasma Weld – Very accurate and consistent welds improve the consistency and durability of the face while saving weight, which can be redistributed throughout the club head.
  • Exceptional Aesthetics – Simple, but eye catching aesthetics make the Rapture Hybrid appealing to your eye.
  • Three Loft Options – Available in 18°, 21°, and 24° loft options, you are sure to find a club to replace those hard to hit long irons, with easier to hit hybrids.
  • New TFX 909H Shaft – Premium graphite shaft designed by PING specifically for the Rapture product line. This shaft utilizes high-end lightweight materials which increase club head speed for maximum distance and increase tip stability for better control and feel.
  • VS Proto 80 Hybrid Shaft – Premium graphite shaft designed by Aldila promotes a lower ball flight trajectory than the TFC 909H, by producing a lower launch angle with a slightly lower spin rate.
  • New NTS Grip – This new wrap style grip utilizes a soft rubber compound for enhanced feel, similar to the 703 grip.

The Golf Psychology of Self Hypnosis and Imagination for Winning Happiness

August 30, 2009 by admin

I felt so sad watching Sergio Garcia looking so miserable and failing to close out a much needed win in the Wyndham Championship at Greensboro on Sunday. It reminds me of how important our internal state is to good golf psychology and how we can use self-hypnosis to manage and control our state of mind.

One of the fundamentals of modern psychology is the idea that whatever we consciously think about our unconscious mind does its best to deliver. This manifests itself in many ways and if we’re consciously looking at something, then pretty soon we find ourselves physically heading towards it.

Have you ever noticed, when you’re driving along in your car on a wide road, maybe a motorway or freeway, and you notice something interesting off in the distance to the right or left, that you suddenly find yourself unconsciously steering towards it? That happens on the golf course if you focus on something that you want to avoid, like a bunker or a water hazard? Have you noticed how you tend to unconsciously hit the ball directly at the thing you’re trying consciously to avoid?

Well, something similar happens if you’re not in the right state of mind when you do something that matters to you. If you’re in a good mood or state of mind when you’re playing golf, then you unconsciously tend to play positively, enjoy the game and probably score well. If, like Sergio on Sunday, you’re in a negative state of mind, then you unconsciously play negatively, get frustrated with your game and score badly. If you have natural talent, like Sergio, and if you really focus on a positive result, like he did with his amazing shot from the bunker on the last hole, you can still hit some good shots in the middle of a bad round.

So what can I do if I’m feeling in a negative state of mind, I hear you ask? Now that depends on why you’re in a negative state and addressing that question would be a good start. But what if I’m in a really bad state and I just can’t get out of it – I’m so depressed you know, Andrew?

Well, if you’re familiar with a quick technique for taking yourself into self-hypnosis, then use it now. If not, it really doesn’t matter, just quietly take a few slow deep breaths while noticing how the air you’re breathing in is cooling your body and calming your mind and the air you’re breathing out is releasing all the tension from your body.

Now just remember a time in the past when you’re playing golf really well, enjoying yourself and scoring as well as you know you can now. If you can’t remember a time, just imagine a time when you might have played and felt that good.

Now see what you saw when you’re playing well, imagine the scene like you’re seeing it through your own eyes. Make the picture bright, bold and active. See all the colour and movement in the picture and amplify it.

Hear the sounds that you’re hearing there, perhaps the sound of the wind or the other golfers on the course or the sounds of birds. Notice any particular aromas, perhaps the scent of the freshly cut grass or the smell of your favourite food wafting across the course from the clubhouse.

Remember or imagine the physical feelings of warmth or coolness in your body, the weight of your shoes on the ground and, most importantly those good feelings associated with this experience.

Feels good, doesn’t it? You’re playing golf really well when you feel this good, aren’t you.

TaylorMade Burner XD irons

August 29, 2009 by admin

After several rounds and a session at the range, I believe these clubs are an appropriate choice for golfers who simply want to enjoy the game and don’t want to put in too much practice time. Simply stated, the TaylorMade Burner XD irons provide decent results and exceptional distance with reasonable swings.

Distance is staggering due to the strong lofts and titanium face. Expect to drop one maybe two clubs for the same distance. I went to a 9 iron from an 8 iron for 150 yards. Accuracy is very good even when your swing is off. I have improved from 75% to 85% which has caused me to drop 3 to 4 strokes per round. Looks are excellent but did not buy these for that reason.

The thing I like the most about these clubs is that once you get use to them you know what they are going to do and they are relatrively straight. Since I am a low 80′s shooter that gives me better control of my game. A very controlled swing with these clubs will give a ball flight that is amazing to watch. Sometimes it actually feels like I know what I am doing!

The Burner emphasis on distance will probably play well with a certain segment of the golfing public, but others will find the delofting of the irons to be counterproductive to their games. Most golfers choosing to play these clubs would be best served by skipping the three-iron and starting the set with the four- or five-iron, which have the same lofts as most three- and four-irons. As it is, the Burner XDs are probably would work best for someone with a swing speed of 70-90, so the SuperFast technology could help the increase that speed.

All in all, the Burner XDs do what they are supposed to do. They launch the ball on a mid to high trajectory, and they are pretty long as irons go. But really the best thing about the Burner irons is that you can make less than stellar contact all day long, and it won’t hurt you too badly. If these had a more solid feel to them, they’d probably sell a ton of them.

Is it really possible to lengthen your Drive and cut your handicap by 7-12 strokes in just two weeks?

August 26, 2009 by admin

If you play golf regularly, then you will already know how frustrating it is when the same errors, bad habits and mistakes with our golf swing cause you to lose games, staying stuck with the same high scores.

So if you:

…then the following information should be able to point you in the right direction once and for all. You see, all of your high scores and inconsistent shots can be resolved with a good golf swing. That’s where it all starts…

Why is the golf swing so important?

The golf swing makes or brakes the entire game. It’s not about your clubs or your putting…if you can’t swing and drive consistently close to the pin, then you’ll always leave the green feeling cheated and frustrated.

Secondly, the number of mis-hits, penalty strokes, and extra strokes taken as a result of the mis-hits will determine your score, and your overall ability as a golfer

And so by learning to perfect your golf swing, you’ll not only play a more satisfying game, but you’ll get praise and respect plus a whole heap of pride in your own abilities. When that happens, nobody can keep you away from the green for long.

But Why isn’t your golf swing as good as it could be already?

The problem with the golf swing is that it is actually illogical. Psychologically, we find it hard to accept how the golf swing actually works. It doesn’t feel instinctive, so we try and swing using what feels right, instead of what works.

Let me explain…

A powerful 300 yard drive can be achieved with minimal physical effort. So that means, power without effort…it’s a strange concept, right? It would be like saying “we’re going to launch a space shuttle with half the fuel required”. At least, that’s how our brains interpret it. You see, we think there’s no way you can hit a golf ball 300 yards without lots of effort and energy. So when we attempt that swing, our muscles tighten and we recoil like a 40ft elastic band on that poor golf ball, because we’re trying to launch it for great distance.

Amateur golfers often make this mistake, and whilst pros still do put effort and enery into the golf swing, it’s not done in the way we instinctively think. The truth is, a perfect golf swing doesn’t involve power, certainly not how the amateur golfer understands it.

Amateur golfers think you need to start the golf swing powerfully but the pro golfers know that you put the effort in at the bottom of the swing. Knowing this simple difference between amateur and pro golfers will start the process of adjusting your mind, before we get the technique down for you. But first, let’s look at what could be holding you back…

The problems with many golf swing products

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably tried numerous advice, products and training material to improve your golf swing.

And it’s always the same problems that occur…

However, there’s a guide I stumbled upon recently which appears to be very different in its’ approach and teaching methods.

What is the “Golf Swing Guru”?

With the Golf Swing Guru guide, you will learn how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting the ball fat, how to avoid slicing the ball, how to get more power from your swing.

Click Here – Perfect Golf Swing Tips

This system will give you consistency…which is the golden word in golf. You will be focusing on the fundamentals that will improve ball flight. The system focuses purely on swing mechanics. It highlights unique points of the swing that add consistency. Here’s the secret: With consistency comes power. The “The Simple Swing” is 31 pages and “The Simple Chip” is 11 pages long, so it’s an easy read and won’t keep you in learning mode for long. – http://www.golf-swings.info/

Irons designed to provide an elite level of performance for highly skilled golfers.
After receiving feedback straight from Tour players, Callaway Golf designers decided to refine the X-Forged Irons. The end result is precision clubs that let elite players dissect the course. Forged from soft carbon steel, the clubhead has been redesigned with more bounce and camber and a tighter sole radius. The thin topline, narrow sole and short blade length allow for excellent workability. The Flighted CG Design produces strong trajectories and premium distance control while the new Progressive Dual Notch Weighting allows weight to be precisely positioned for optimized performance throughout the set.

Forged 1020 Carbon Steel Construction
Provides unmatched feel and performance, giving elite-level golfers incredibly soft, responsive feedback at impact.

Tour-Inspired Head Styling
Additional bounce improves turf interaction and more camber provides greater versatility. The sole radius was tightened to add to the versatility under various playing conditions. The thin topline, narrow sole and shorter blade length combine to generate maximum workability and the White Chrome finish mutes glare.

Flighted CG Design
Provides the optimal trajectories, ball flight, and distance control that Tour players demand with seamless performance progression through the entire set.

Progressive Dual Notch Weighting
Placing weight on the top and bottom of the cavity allows for the Flighted CG Design. By progressively adjusting the notch weighting through the set, it strategically adds more weight to shorter irons and removes weight from longer irons to produce strong, penetrating trajectories.

Golf Books: Better Your Odds with the Simple Golf Swing

August 24, 2009 by admin

There’s a problem with most golf books. Whether they’re written by legends like Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus or even by well-known golf pros, those guys are so naturally talented and so far advanced in their techniques that most of us “normal” human beings couldn’t possibly copy their style and skills.

While I’d love to be the next Tiger Woods, what are the odds that’s going to happen? I’m just a regular guy who wants to lower his handicap and look cool in front of my buddies. While it’s great that Tiger and Jack are geniuses who’ve put what works for them in their books, where’s the practical advice for the rest of us?

That advice, my friend, is in David Nevogt’s Simple Golf Swing. It’s guaranteed to help you improve your swing. When you improve your swing, you’ll improve your whole game.

While David is definitely a pro golfer, the Simple Swing wasn’t written for pros–it was written for people who are looking for step-by-step instructions to learn a swing that will help them hit the ball further than they ever have before. As the name says, David keeps it simple. Follow the instructions, do the drills, and you’ll see results–fast.

The best part about the Simple Golf Swing is that it doesn’t take a lot of effort to learn it. You can pretty well get it down in a couple of hours, and you can master it in under two weeks. The instructions are well illustrated, too, so you can see everything you need to be doing.

Let’s face it; people like us are never going to be golf legends. But with the Simple Golf Swing, we can still be great players. Nine out of ten people who’ve tried the Simple Golf Swing say it’s worked for them. Those odds are all in our favor.

Are You Mentally Fit For Golf?

August 23, 2009 by admin

“The game of golf begins in your mind, more than athletic ability, more than technique, more than practice or ability or anything else. The mind-set you bring to the game determines not only the enjoyment you desire from golf but also the level of proficiency you will achieve”. The great golf teacher, Jim Flick, made this statement. He further stated “Golf is 90% mental…and the other 10% is mental”.

Tom Kite has been quoted to say “I have to spend as much time on the mental side of golf as on the practice range”.

No matter what level you are at with your golf, your mind set is an ultra-important part of your golf game. Your mind set will dictate your ability to learn, your ability to play golf and, if you are a teaching professional, it also massively affects your success in this domain. As with everything in life, a holistic approach is what is needed. There is no point honing in a great physical technique if your golfing mind is letting you down.

The right golf mind training helps you to learn more quickly, retain and use more of what you learn, and to perform at higher levels. This is undisputed fact. Your muscles in your golfing mind train up in the same way as your physical muscles – with repetition; it is therefore important to ensure that you are mentally rehearsing what you want to rehearse – a strong, powerful and positive golf mind. Whatever mental images and thoughts you are repeating, you are strengthening. It is easy to train your golf mind so long as you know how your mind works; unfortunately, most people don’t realize that their habitual thoughts are in fact sabotaging their game…so let’s take a situation and see in what ways you may be thinking. Imagine now that you’re on the Tee, playing a hole which you’ve played before, some trees nearby which have caused a spot of bother in the past.

Thought 1. “Ok, I do not want to go in the trees here” might seem to be the right thought, but in actual fact this thought will usually induce the opposite effect of that intended. The golf ball will, 99% of the time, end up in the trees if this is what you are thinking.

Thought 2. “I mustn’t think about going into the trees. I’ll think about that spot on the fairway instead” indicates a move in the right direction, but still isn’t good enough; a lot of thought energy is still being focused on the trees, with an attempted change of focus.

Thought 3. “Ok there’s trees there, the best shot is to aim along that line and end exactly there; That’s where I’m going” is a whole lot better again, although still not perfect.

So what is the perfect golf mind set?

Thought 4. “OK, there are trees there; the best shot is to aim along that line and end exactly there; that’s where I’m going”. Now visualize the shot, really see it, imagine the perfect swing, feel it, see the ball landing there, stick to your preferred pre shot routine and know that is where the golf ball is going.

That’s the best golf mind set.

Let’s return to the first line of this article. Are you mentally fit for golf? Is your instinctive thought process aligned with this fourth example? Because, if not, it should be…and it can be…with a little bit of golf mind training.

Like I said before, your mental muscles train up in much the same way as your physical muscles. You go for lessons and you practice your swing, you practice different golf shots – draws and fades, high and low shots, chips and pitches. You spend hours on the putting green. And all this practice pays off. How much time do you spend on your mental muscles?

Why not raise your game to a higher level by taking a more holistic approach to your golf game and get mentally and emotionally fit for golf? Golf mind training is the part of your game which takes the least time and effort to produce significantly better your results and lower your handicap. Get the right guidance, make sure you are honing in the right golf mind set, use a bit of golf hypnosis to relax and to make the most beneficial thought processes automatic. It really is very easy…so long as you make the decision to tackle your own golf mind.

Alternatively you can choose to play golf averagely as compared to your potential ability. It is your choice.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people know that their golf mental skills could be improved upon and yet they won’t attempt to work upon them. Instead, a new putter, or a new driver is purchased, a new training aid, etc, etc. Why is this? I have come to the conclusion that it’s because the majority of people think “this is how I am” and either don’t think that they can change their thought processes, or think that it would be very difficult to do so. If you are one of these people, let me assure you that you are wrong on both counts. If you want to get mentally fit for golf, you can. If you don’t want to, or cannot be bothered, you can’t. Once you decide to work on your mental golf skills, they are relatively simple to hone in.

Golf Shops: www.wowgolfclubs.com

Golf is a game that one can learn easily if one has enough determination and can invest in the right equipment. Beginners or professionals in the sport of golf should always use the best that is available which can be purchased from a reputable store and the best place to get it is in golf specialty shop. Places like these have everything from golf clubs, to balls, to shoes and clothes which are the essentials when one is an enthusiast of walking the green.

If one is not sure where to find one, that person can check the local directory or go online since there are many websites, such as www.wowgolfclubs and www.mysurbuy.com that offer brand new and second equipment that a person who is just a beginner or an expert can choose from and buy. All it takes is putting it in ones shopping basket, giving some credit card details then after a few days, it will be delivered so the person can bring it to the club and start having fun.

Should the person still have a hard time in looking for a specialty shop, one can ask people for directions on how to get there. Some of these places can be a bit more expensive than others so before buying anything, one should check out the other stores and look for bargains before making any decisions.

There are many brands in the sport of golf and if the person has a hard time picking a certain item, one can ask the assistance of the sales person who will be able to tell which are the best selling items and the benefits and features of each.

Having the right set of clubs is the determining factor which will tell whether a person will do well in a tournament or not. Since this is very important, one should take the time to feel the grip of each model available first in the store so one will be able to choose the right set that the person can use and will feel comfortable with when playing in the green.

Playing golf is being with nature. It makes one get up early in the morning while the sun isn’t out yet and enjoying the game in the company of people from work or with friends. By having the right equipment on hand, it will make the person enjoy the game which provides a great escape from the pressures of the city.
