Shank shot is a name used when the golf ball is hot with the housel of the golf club. The housel is a round part that comes between the shaft and the face of the club. Curing the shank shot is important in the golf game. The common reasons of shank shot is that the weight is transferred to the toes from the heels and you stand close to the ball. It is also taken when there is a flaw in the natural swing aim, your arm movement is away from the body or your shoulder turn is incomplete.

The cure for a shank shot is that you should find a solid and reliable swing. A swing shot can be easily learned and repeated to make your game better. You should also avoid or improve your common mistakes because it will also help you to improve your shots and avoid taking shank shots. Try to keep your balance perfect and on the perfect spot as needed by the shot. Your distance from the ball should be reasonable but not too far from the ball so that you can make a proper and effective swing.

If you want to identify your mistakes, you can video tape yourself taking the shot and study it. This way you can pin point the problem and take steps to correct them. You can also compare your shots to a professional and adjust yourself to the professional golfer.

The best thing to do about a shank shot is to pick a right approach and practice it as often as possible. This is the best thing you can do to get rid of your shank shot and it is guaranteed to work.

Follow the above mentioned tips and you will be able to get rid of your shank shot. These tips are guaranteed to work on any one who gives reasonable time and consideration to make their game better.

San Roque Golf (old course) forms one side of the golden triangle of the Costa del Sol Golf along with the world famous golf courses at Sotogrande and Valderrama.

This 18 hole championship golf course was a result of a joint effort by British designer Dave Thomas and the Japanese owner Asahi Kanko in anticipation of it hosting major European Championship events and founded in 1990.

San Roque Golf Course has two distinct loops and is regarded as one of the finest golf courses on the Costa del Sol, Spain.

The first 9 holes set off into cork oaks that are a feature of the golf course and will eventually return you to the clubhouse.

The second 9 holes are considered to be that little bit more open but you have to contend with some serious water hazards with meandering streams and ponds to negotiate. The golf course offers a mixture of short and long par 4′s, par 5′s which for the long hitters are reachable in two and excellent par 3′s.

San Roque Golf rewards the accurate golfer who can overcome the tight fairways and tiered undulating greens. It is a golf course that gives pleasure to all standards.

One thing you will find at San Roque Golf Course is the course is always presented in magnificent condition. The fairways are well dressed, the bunkers look a picture and the greens are usually immaculate. This is all part of the standards offered at the San Roque Golf complex.

On arrival at San Roque Golf Course you will find ample parking and a magnificent clubhouse with bar and restaurant facilities and a large terrace area. The staff is always friendly and looks after you superbly. The changing rooms are first class with well-equipped shower facilities. Excellence in Golf Depends on Attitude

May 17, 2009 by admin

‘Excellence is not a skill it is an attitude’.

- Peter Jacobsen

I have talked about attitude in a previous article and discussed being in the right state of mind and how to get into the ‘flow’.

So does golfing excellence depend upon our attitude?

Noun 1. excellence - the quality of excelling; possessing good qualities in high degree
Definition courtesy of:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/excellence

Noun 1. attitude – a complex mental state involving beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in certain ways; “he had the attitude that (golf) was fun”
Definition courtesy of:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/attitude

Of course a positive mental attitude is absolutely necessary if you are going to succeed. In order for you to achieve the level of excellence you seek in your game of golf, then the real importance lies with how you react when things are going wrong. This will determine your success.

You need a positive mental attitude in order to get through any adversity or difficulty; especially when it comes to a poor golf shot. If you want to know what sort of attitude you have then wait until something goes wrong; the ball in the water hazard, out of bounds or stuck in a bunker, and see how you react.

If you manage to leave the poor shot behind you and to move on with a positive attitude then you are on the right track.

Success can be helped along though by expecting things to go well. If you believe that your ball is going where you want it to, then you are more likely to achieve the successful shot you seek. You often hear me mention that ‘you create your own reality’ and this is a direct result of your attitude.

Your attitude is directly dependent on your belief system and the quality of your self-talk. One of the most important differences between success and failure is the way a person thinks. Successful golfers, and indeed people, are those that focus towards their goals and what they truly want.

If you are stood on the tee and your focus is to not send your golf ball into the water, your mind will only acknowledge that which is visual. In this particular case it is the ‘water’. Your sub-conscious does not differentiate what is right or wrong, it is merely there to support you in what it believes you are attempting to achieve. If your focus is the water, then it will help you send the ball there!

You have often heard about people whose glasses are half empty or half full. This is an example of a ’glass half empty’ way of thinking. There are those of you who will play your golf hitting away from the hazards, such as the water or bunker, rather than TOWARDS your goals; visualizing landing that ball on the middle of the fairway.

If you are going to create a positive attitude and a level of excellence you can only dream about in your game of golf, then it’s time to keep a check on your self-talk and what you are telling your subconscious.

So if excellence is not a skill but an attitude as the quote at the start of this article suggests, it is a positive mental attitude that matters. So let’s take a look at the process that will help get you the right ‘attitude’.

Creating a positive mental attitude requires some effort on your part. We now understand that the way you look at a challenge will determine your attitude.

Another of my favourite sayings is ‘there are no mistakes only lessons’. It is all about how you choose to react to any given situation. New beliefs are created all the time; you hit a golf ball into the water hazard on the 14th hole three times in a row you now believe that every time you tee off from the 14th the ball is going in the water.

The great fact is that you can also create new positive beliefs as easily as negative beliefs. If you believe that the biggest challenges that present themselves to you on the golf course have been sent to you to teach you a valuable lesson then you will have the sort of attitude that will support you in becoming a winner.

If you see every challenge as an opportunity to learn, then by looking for the positive in every situation it will stop your subconscious and self-talk being inclined to journey down the ‘half-empty’ route.

If you are always looking for the good and the lessons in each challenge rather than concentrating on the ‘mistakes’, your mind is filled with all the possibilities of creating a solution.

If you allow your mind to seek a negative solution, then physically you will start to feel anxious and fear will drive your decisions and your behaviour. It is almost impossible to think positively if your mind is full of what could go wrong.

Your attitude is a reflection of who you are and you shape your game of golf depending on the attitude you take onto the golf course with you. If you want to bring about change to your game of golf then develop a positive mental attitude as your attitude will directly affect how you play.

TIP: The next time you play golf EXPECT only good things to happen. Look at each golf challenge as a lesson and choose to learn from it and move on.

REMEMBER: You cannot change what has passed. Your last shot is not a reflection on how you are going to play your next shot unless you choose to create the negative belief that will support that outcome. You can CHOOSE to have a positive attitude and to support yourself in creating the excellence and success you seek.

Was golf originally played by men….or was golf originally a ladies game? (Heaven forbid!)

May 15, 2009 by admin

Sometime last year I visited the Ming exhibition at the Asian Arts museum in San Francisco.  My interest was piqued by a hand scroll in colored ink on silk, exquisitely beautiful, which featured in part the “beauty and pleasantry” of the Court ladies’ lives in the Inner Palace.  This wonderful scroll, attributed to Du Jin (1465-1500), depicted the ladies going about their favorite  pastimes, including the serving of snacks (no surprise there!), kicking a ball (Did ladies of that period really play soccer or, better still, American football? – my mind is really going overtime trying to picture that one!)…and, even more curious…playing a GOLF game…Wow!

I, needless to say, did a double take; And, yes, it showed ladies (not men wearing kimonos!) holding a club which was clearly a golf club as we know it today; perhaps not your new Nike square headed driver, but depicting a regular iron, complete with grooves on its face, together with a small golf ball sized ball and a hole.  So here we clearly see ladies in China in the late 1400′s playing a golf-like game inside the walls of the Imperial Palace.

You, like me, may have heard that the letters GOLF actually stand for “Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden”.  Although there is clearly no truth in this being the origin of the name “golf”, as this type of word play was not in vogue at that time, over the years there has certainly been a particular school of male golfers who think women should be kept well away from the course…

Where did golf really start?  And was it played by men or women?  A few searches on Google and a quick look at other resources did not provide a conclusive answer.

It would seem that there are many different countries who would like to claim that golf started with them.  And there is a certain amount of evidence to support each and every claim.  Certainly a golf-like game was played in many counties, not just in Scotland or China, but also in Rome, Holland, Belgium, France and England, to name just a few of these claimant countries.

In China, records show that their particular golf like game, called “chiuwan”, was played five hundred years before golf was ever mentioned in Scotland (far earlier also than the date of the scroll I spotted at the Ming exhibition).  This particular version was played with 10 clubs, not 14, and there is no reference to it being played over 18 holes and totaling an average par of 72.  It is suggested by Chinese researchers that golf could have found its way to Europe compliments of Mongolian travelers sometime in the late middle ages.

The Dutch not only claim to have instigated the game of golf, but also lay claim to naming the game.  The Dutch word “colf” actually means club, and colf morphed into golf.

So, how do the Scottish respond to such claims?  They agree that stick and ball games have been played all over the world for centuries, but golf as we know it today, played over 18 holes, did indeed originate in Scotland.  And the name golf may very well have come from the Dutch.

And as to whether it was originally played by men or women, the rich or the poor, it is clear that both sexes and people from all levels of society have played golf-like games for many centuries.

Golf News – Woosnam Looks to Home Success

May 14, 2009 by admin

Welsh senior Ian Woosnam is looking to clinch two consecutive wins having just taken the title in the Parkridge Polish Seniors Championship and with the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open approaching this weekend.  Indeed, Woosnam is coming home in positive spirits as his stroke play victory in Poland was his first for over a decade, after winning the PGA Championship in 1997. Woosnam became part of the European Seniors Tour on turning 50 this spring, having previously captained a win for the European team in the 2006 Ryder Cup. His career in golf began in Wales as an amateur and evolved into a series of European Tours, including a renowned triumph at the August National Master Tournament back in 1991.

Back to the present, his next stop is the Conwy Golf Course in northern Wales with a new determination to win the Ryder Cup Senior Open. According to reports Woosnam has said to be looking forward to this tournament more than ever as he was never able to take a trophy at his national Open before going senior. The Oswestry-born player also described his recent win in Poland as fantastic and is excited at the chance to take back-to-back wins at the upcoming event at Conwy, understandably as the tournament has the second biggest prize fund on the Senior Tour.

There will also undoubtedly be an element of nostalgia felt this weekend as Woosnam played the same course during his years as a developing amateur. However, it is not going to be a walk in the park as once again Woosnam will be confronted by long-term rival Sandy Lyle of Scotland, who is also in a bid for part of the £500,000 prize fund. The two have also played together as Lyle was an Assistant Captain of the successful Ryder Cup team in Ireland two years ago. Back to this event, Woosnam’s main rival is set to be last year’s winner Carl Manson, who also took the £75,000 first prize in 2005.

If your organization is looking to raise money while having fun, look to a golf fundraiser. Putting on a golf fundraiser can be pretty intimidating. Instead of trying to do it all yourself, look to a professional golf fundraising help.

Choosing a Golf Fundraiser Company to Help Your Organization Raise Funding

•    All materials, training and development are provided, along with your own dedicated website to track results.
•    Volunteer based – so no out of pocket expense for staff.
•     A unique fundraiser idea that is fun, challenging, and innovative.
•    It’s likely that your volunteers will want to be part of the next campaign.
•    Golf fundraisers don’t have to be for pro golfers- a professional golf fundraiser company knows how to model an event designed for the novice golfer in mind.

Go With the Professionals For Your Golf Fundraiser
The right golf fundraiser professional can show non-profit organizations how to better assess their potential for contributions. They will teach your organization’s volunteers how to communicate more effectively with donors and the public, how to manage their campaign more strategically, and how to better utilize their resources of time, people, and money to maximize return on investment.

Now that May is here, it’s time to break out the clubs and get on the greens and start making the green!
Besides raising money for your organization, golf fundraisers, or any fundraisers are a fundamental way of letting people know more about your organization and generating goodwill.
Behind every successful fundraiser are ingredients for success. From the volunteers, the motivation and a little elbow grease, you will find that with a little help and teamwork, your church, non-profit or school fundraiser will be a great success!

How to swing golf

Green’s is the area of the 18 (9) routes that are part of the golf course, which is the cup to be inserted in the ball. With variable size between about 2 400 sq m (60x40m) and only 300 sq m (20x15m), this portion of the golf course is one which players can cause the most emotion.

They say a coup executed putt on the surface is as stressful as a defense to a penalty in football. The green happens many, many situations that defy paranormalul. I saw many times the big players, true gods of the game of golf, ratând placing the ball in the cup at 10-15 cm, as we have seen successful strikes, downright incredible, miraculous, from 35-50 m. I’ve seen balls that sent directly to the small distance to ignore a cup, to bypassing a few centimeters or stopping on its edge. Sometimes the ball is large curvature, like dancing, because in the end to proceed directly to the bucket and to hear that sound ecstatic to announce that its conquest. By accidental damage, lucky in the pursuit of such miracles. No, this is the truth, but a “reading” the correct line player putt on a green surface denivelata map.

How to read this whimsical green area map?

We look at the land between the ball and the hole, you see how any panta tends to reveal a sense, a picture about how it will run the ball in the hole they go. That means to read a green. It’s just a subjective, one that comes with experience and that is very difficult to explain better than that. Once you hit the first putt and you saw patrunzând, start into bedrock for a more subtle. As time and experience accumulate on green, so you will develop the ability to read the green sites.

Reading a green or a putt is the line you imagine, view, drawn to the provisions on the line or route which will run the ball when hit. Some-putt will be straight, direct, others will be broken.

Why read the putt-uri?

To represent us a shot, a putt, so that we can send the ball in the right direction to end in the hole or close to it. Read the green give visual information that is needed.

What factors are necessary in reading the putt?

Judging a putt is a combination of speed – how slow or how fast it will move the ball and, therefore, how far you get.

What factors affect the direction and speed?

Slope. Length of thread grass. And humidity levels in the grass. Base (firmness grass). Wind. Wire grass. Some types of grass (with the girl growing in the same direction) affects how the ball moves. This becomes more of a problem imbunatatitelor and new types of grass that grow in warm climele May. Linked to this, some tips: usually affects the ball when it slows, the ball will be influenced in the direction in which the thread grows, usually, the thread grows westward or to the nearest water source, usually one can see thread due stralucirii grass.

Lower your eyes (that’s why the players are coming to read your putt – the eyes are closer to the surface plane, with both trying to read the perspective is better).

Gather all the information on your chip and putt nearby sites – own or other players in the group – especially if you are on a line similar to the putt that is going to hit him. It indicated to observe how the ball behaves while approaching the hole.

Look down from the hole. It is another way to get your eyes. Of course, this works only putt at sites where one can say that is the bottom.

Remove yourself enough of what look to be a good prospect. A good way to do this, at least in the short putt sites, is to give back to the ball, up to a distance equal to that between the ball and the hole.

Take a look on the side of the putt (approximately perpendicular to the intended line of putt). This will help you see if your putt is the hill or down.

To appreciate the speed and line of putt will be obvious or very subtle, from putt to putt. But with little time and experience and after many attempts and mistakes, anyone can develop their ability to read the green sites. It’s art in a way to strike a success, in the end, worth all the attention.
